Beginner surf lessons
A practical introduction to surfing in Varkala, starting on the sand and moving into the water with your instructor.
Your first waves
Time well spent, at your level.
Learn how to position yourself on the board, paddle and practise the pop-up before entering the water. The session is as much about understanding the beach as catching a wave. Your coach sets the pace and the working area for the conditions that day.

A clear plan before you begin.
- 01
Meet and assess
Share your experience and swimming confidence. Agree a realistic aim for the session.
- 02
Practise on land
Work through board position, paddling and standing movements with a demonstration.
- 03
Try, rest, repeat
Practise in the agreed area with coaching, breaks and feedback.
Before you arrive
The small details matter.
- Bring swimwear, a towel, drinking water and sun protection.
- Tell the team your swimming confidence and previous experience.
- Session windows are 7:30 am, 9:30 am and 4 pm. Conditions determine the final time.
- Accommodation, meals and any extra transport are separate unless your quote includes them.
Before you decide.
Can I join if I cannot swim?
Tell the team before booking. The instructor must assess suitability; a beginner lesson does not automatically make water participation appropriate for non-swimmers.
What happens if the sea is unsuitable?
The team will discuss a different time or cancellation according to the terms agreed when booking. Sessions only run in suitable conditions.
Should I choose one or five sessions?
One session is a useful introduction. Five sessions give you more opportunities to practise; they do not promise a particular result. Discuss the schedule and validity before paying.
Make it your day
Tell us when you’re coming.
Your enquiry goes to the Paddlecult team with the session, date and group details already filled in. We will agree the practicalities before you commit.
